When exploring the wine region around Stellenbosch and Somerset West, a rental car is usually the most convenient option. Ubers are more rare compared to Cape Town, therefore have a longer waiting time and public transport is not really available for tourists.
Cape Town itself has a great coverage with Ubers and local buses. Within the city area, using an Uber is quick, relatively cheap and in abundance.
Our recommendation is to rent a car from CPT for the duration of your trip and when in Cape Town to use Uber XL when planning on enjoying a glass of wine or two and / or at night.
Explore Cape Town, one of the most stunning cities in South Africa and, in our opinion, the world. Delve into its vibrant history, savour diverse cuisines, and unwind at lively cafes or exceptional restaurants along Camps Bay promenade. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and friendly locals, Cape Town offers a unique experience under the January sun.

Stellenbosch, one of South Africa's oldest towns, invites you to wander its historic streets, indulge in wine tasting at its numerous vineyards, or simply relax in one of its cosy cafes.
The town is home to one of South Africa's most prominent and largest universities, Stellenbosch University, and the town's population doubles when students are on campus. Note that December and January are the country's summer holiday, so most inland towns will be quieter than usual. During this period, it’s recommended to stay at one of the surrounding vineyards rather than in the town itself.
